This Blog is created especially to become a media for all lecturer in polymer science or polymer technologist to share ideas in any topic related to Polymer Chemistry and Technology. You are most well come to contribute ideas, opinions or even a lecture on recent development of polymer technology.

My Education Philosophy

My past experiences as a researcher does help me much to become a good lecturer. I just realize that the world of education is full of fascinating after become a lecturer. I become passionate about teaching. I think that I should have involved in the area of education a long time ago. However, I have to learn from the scratch about philosophy of education. My research experiences guide me how to get information and how disseminate it to others. I have to strengthen my personal philosophy of education.

A lecturer or teacher carries a big responsibility to the university and the student. One reason is that all students depend on her/him. Everything the lecturer says will have an impact on the students. If the lecturer or teacher feels joy of feels anger, it will be spread among student because the attitudes of the teacher gets contagious. If the lecturer laughs, students also laugh, why? Because teachers are responsible for the social behavior in the classroom. If something goes wrong the only responsible is the lecturer even if it was not their foul.

I treat my students with respect. I learn with and from my students. That is what makes teaching exciting for me. It is an ongoing process of learning. I do not consider myself the sole provider of information. I integrate technology into my classrooms. I teach my students how to use information as a means and not an end.

Education is a value. I value learning and still get excited from teaching. Learning also requires background, motivation, confidence and skills. In Islam to seek knowledge is a sacred duty, it is obligatory on every Muslim, male and female. The first word revealed of the Qur’an was "Iqra" means READ! Seek knowledge! Educate yourselves! Be educated.

Surah Al-Zumr, ayah 9 reveals: "Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know?" Surah Al-Baqarah, ayah 269 reveals: "Allah grants wisdom to whom He pleases and to whom wisdom is granted indeed he receives an overflowing benefit."

The first and most crucial obligation on us is to acquire knowledge and secondly to practice and preach this knowledge. A person without knowledge is like someone walking along a track in complete darkness.

I believe the aim of education is:

  • To create the best possible learning experiences for each student.
  • To educate the whole student including the spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and creative aspects.
  • To educate students for their future.

I believe:

  • Every student can learn given an appropriate learning environment.
  • Each individual has enormous potential for thinking and learning.
  • Students need to have learning experiences that are relevant to their life.
  • Learning experiences should be integrated so there is purpose in what they learn.
  • Students learn more from active hands-on curriculum that allows them to explore and create.
  • Students do not all learn the same way.
  • Students learn from each other and from the modeling of behaviors by other students and adults.

I believe a lecturer/teacher:

  • Is a professional who has great interest in guiding student to help them reach their potential.
  • Has a role to create educational opportunities for students that enable them to know, think, value, feel, and act.
  • Is a coach for learning, not a giver of facts.
  • Should seek students' points of view and interests to promote learning.
  • Should have a love for student, subject matter, and a vision of teaching and learning.
  • Are constantly learning and growing in the profession.
  • Have a desire to excite all students in learning.
  • Should create a learning environment that extends beyond the traditional classroom to real-time experiences, real-life applications, and intra- and inter- community partnerships in learning.

My desire is to stay committed to my beliefs and make student love for learning and excitement in discovering.

Plants are shaped by cultivation and men by education… .. We are born weak, we need strength; we are born totally unprovided, we need aid; we are born stupid, we need judgment. Everything we do not have at our birth and which we need when we are grown is given us by education. (Jean Jacques Rousseau, Emile, On Philosophy of Education)

Biomedical used of Chitrosan

Chitosan's properties allow it to rapidly clot blood, and has recently gained approval in the United States for use in bandages and other hemostatic agents. Chitosan purified from shrimp shells is used in the range of hemostatic products. Chitosan hemostatic products have been shown in testing by the U.S. Marine Corps to quickly stop bleeding and result in 100% survival of otherwise lethal arterial wounds in swine and to reduce blood loss.[26] Chitosan hemostatic products reduce blood loss in comparison to gauze dressings and increases patient survival.[27] Chitosan hemostatic products have been sold to the U.S. Army, who have already used the bandages on the battlefields of Iraq.[28] Chitosan is hypoallergenic, and has natural anti-bacterial properties, further supporting its use in field bandages.[29]
